Miss 2002

I was pretty cool in 2002. Or I guess 2002 was just a cool year. One year after the 9/11 attacks the world…well at-least America was closer than ever. People seemed to be a lot more friendly a lot more open. Fashion specifically was my favorite part of this year. It was all about chunky shoes, low-rise jeans or trousers, scarves, layering…two-polos. I could go on! I actually think it was a re-birth of an individualistic approach to how each person wears fashion. Since the years fashion has become a trend itself instead of shining the light of the importance of the wearer. It’s always been about how you wear your clothes and not the other way around.

Big belt buckles, bandanas, halter tops, glitter. I guess I still dress like this because in a way it seems most like me. Trucker hats, Von Dutch, labels. Big bold labels. That’s cool, whats the point of having a brand that doesn’t scream out to the public?

I’m going to digress, but life is funny sometimes …well everytime. But there are some sweet moments you capture where you think to yourself “is this it?” Am I doing what I set out to do? Something inside of your being ignites. It makes you motivated. It shows you what you’re made of.

Thanksgiving is coming up. Which lets me think more of what I have to be thankful for. I’m thankful for my tenacity, my bravery, and my spunk. It is really the part of me that has developed the most and will continue to change and grow. Now, onto a not so selfish list of things to be grateful for: My family’s health (everyone is healthy no serious illness or disease), the love of my life (can’t believe I met him online), the fact that I’M PREGNANT I’ve always wanted a big family, because growing up although I had a wonderful childhood, I was the only kid and now there are two KIDS! Also the fact that I have the resources to even type this, and work and make money to provide and help out with my family! 2020 has definitely been a game changer. I can no longer talk anymore about the pandemic, it makes me too sick. But all in all I have a lot to be thankful for.

Going back to the early 2000’s. If there was an award to win, I’d like to be considered to win it. If I had a pop-up shop or a boutique, can you guess what I’d sell? YES everything from the 2000’s including those cute hair butterfly clips that occasionally get stuck and tangles in your hair! Those beads that hang from the walls, posters…lots and lots of posters. Plastic inflatable chairs those were my favorite for sure and they’d come in all different types of colors. Clothes, accessories, purses and bags and jewelry and glitter and hair spray and glitter hair spray! 🙂 I’m Danielle and I’m running for Miss 2002.
